Mercedes revealed its 2018 Mercedes S-Class in Shanghai. What else can we say? Nothing can beat S-Class when it comes to technology. The car’s got really impressive improvements and deserves our attention.
Design-wise, there isn’t much to talk about the 2018 Mercedes S-Class. But under the bonnet there is a new V-8 biturbo petrol engine as well as new six-cylinder petrol and diesel units. There are also plans for a plug-in hybrid with an electric range of about 50 kilometres to be relased later. As for the technology features, the approach is toward autonomy with features such as DISTRONIC Active Proximity Control and Active Steer Assist. Besides the regular 2018 Mercedes S-Class, Auto Shanghai also saw the debut of the new Mercedes-AMG S63 4MATIC and S65 models. The headline here is that the S63 gets the 4.0 liter V8 bi-turbo from AMG GT (here with cylinder deactivation), but in the sedan it makes an astonishing 612 horsepower and gives the car a sprint time of 3.5 seconds from zero to 100 km/h. The S65 still gets the good old V12 unit, now with 650 horsepower.
Other highlights of the new S-Class include MULTIBEAM LED headlamps and ULTRA RANGE High Beam which turn night into day, ROAD SURFACE SCAN, the forward-looking detection of bumps, and the curve-tilting function CURVE. There is also the ENERGIZING comfort control, a world-first bringing features such as climate control, ambience lighting, massage and fragrancing functions together to offer a unique experience.
